Mendel 4.0 upgrade based on Debian 10

The Coral Team
November 18, 2019

This update is all about Mendel Linux, our OS for the Coral Dev Board and System-on-Module.

In this update, we're releasing Mendel 4.0, our first release based on Debian 10 (buster).

Although based on Debian 10, our update doesn't include everything you see in the Debian 10 changes. Notably excluded are the desktop environments and applications, because our system is designed for embedded systems, not desktops. Also, the SecureBoot and AppArmor changes do not apply to Mendel.

Other upgrades in Mendel 4.0 include the following:

  • Support for Python 3.7
  • Support for OpenCV and OpenCL (installed separately)
  • Support for device tree overlays
  • Upgraded GStreamer pipelines
  • Upgraded Linux Kernel (4.14)
  • Upgraded U-Boot bootloader (2017.03.3)

To upgrade your Dev Board, follow our guide to flash a new system image.
